President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, to take on additional responsibility as Acting Defence Minister, following the demise of Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
Additionally, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, will act as Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, replacing Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
This comes after the substantive Ministers, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, died with six others in a military helicopter crash around Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a statement issued by the Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Thursday, August 7, it was announced that the two appointed ministers will act in their positions “until further notice”.
The two Ministers were on their way to Obuasi for a programme launch when the incident occurred.
