The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso in the Ashanti region, Hon Eric Asibey has urged political actors in the country to always depoliticize the death of political opponents.
He stressed that politicians must recognize their opponents as fellow Ghanaians with brotherly feelings before politics, to enhance unity and togetherness towards the common goal of development.
Mr. Asibey made the appeal during a funeral organized to honor the eight gallant Ghanaians who were involved in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in Kumasi.
The Staff and Management of the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly were joined by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director with Chiefs and Queen mothers, Workers Union, Associations and Musicians.
He entreated Ghanaians, especially political actors, to unite behind the bereaved families to mourn their departed relatives in the tragic incident.
He said that the victims were on a national assignment towards the socioeconomic development of the country and met their untimely death, not on an individual or personal mission.
The MCE underscored the need to honor them devoid of partisan politics, saying that even if nothing else, they were Ghanaians before being politicians.
Mr. Asibey believes that it would be unfair to their souls and families to politicize the gallant heroes in death.
The MCE’s appeal highlights the need for unity and togetherness in times of sorrow. By depoliticizing the death of political opponents, Ghanaians can come together to mourn the loss of lives and pay tribute to their contributions to the country’s development.
