The Deputy Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Simon Appiah Jnr, has called on corporate organisations, financial institutions, and private sector businesses to partner the Fund in building a sustainable financing model that will transform sports development across the country.

Speaking during a health screening exercise organised by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Mr Appiah, said the future of Ghanaian sports depends on strong partnerships between the public and private sectors, particularly in supporting grassroots talent development.

According to him, the Ghana Sports Fund was established to ensure that sports financing moves beyond sporadic fundraising and emergency appeals to a structured, sustainable system capable of nurturing athletes from the grassroots to the international stage.

“We want to collaborate with corporate bodies to raise sustainable funding so that we can support grassroots sports. Every institution that has an interest in sports is welcome to partner with us because sports development is a shared national responsibility,” he said.

He noted that investing in grassroots sports is one of the most effective ways of identifying and nurturing young talent while promoting healthy lifestyles, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening national unity through sports.

The Deputy Administrator stressed that the Ghana Sports Fund is committed to working with companies, banks, educational institutions, development partners, and philanthropic organisations that are willing to contribute to the growth of sports across all disciplines.

He explained that beyond football, the Fund seeks to provide financial support for athletics, boxing, volleyball, basketball, para-sports, and other sporting disciplines that have often struggled to attract adequate investment.

Mr. Appiah said corporate partnerships would enable the Fund to invest in community sporting programmes, athlete development, sports infrastructure, coaching, and youth competitions, creating opportunities for talented young Ghanaians to excel.

He commended ADB for combining healthcare with corporate social responsibility through the health screening programme, describing the initiative as an example of how institutions can contribute meaningfully to national development beyond their core business.

The Deputy Administrator urged more organisations to emulate ADB’s example by extending their corporate social responsibility efforts to include investments in sports, describing sports as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, social inclusion, and economic growth.

The Ghana Sports Fund continues to champion a sustainable financing framework that encourages broad stakeholder participation to ensure that every talented Ghanaian athlete, regardless of background, has the opportunity to develop and compete at the highest level.
