Ghanaian boxing officials have underscored the importance of long-term planning and adequate funding if the country is to improve its performances at future international competitions.

Speaking during an engagement with the Administrator of the Ghana Sports Fund, Dr. David Kofi Wuaku, and officials of the National Sports Authority at the Commonwealth Games, they said success on the global stage begins with deliberate preparation years before competitions take place.

The officials observed that while Ghana continues to produce talented athletes, inadequate preparation and inconsistent investment often limit the country’s ability to maximise its potential.

They therefore called for stronger collaboration between the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Sports Fund, sporting federations and government to ensure athletes receive the technical support, exposure and financial backing needed to compete effectively.

They also highlighted the importance of regular youth championships and international competitions in developing confidence and experience among emerging athletes.

The officials expressed optimism that with sustained investment and proper planning, Ghana could consistently qualify for major championships and improve its medal prospects across several sporting disciplines.

Their appeal reinforces growing calls for a more coordinated approach to sports development, with athlete preparation beginning well before qualification campaigns.
