Two men, including a Chinese, have been arrested by the Akwatia District Police for the possession of four live BB cartridges.
The ammunition were found in their vehicle during a routine patrol by the officers Thursday night, August 21, 2025.
Enoch Asiedu, 32, and Lu Youyan, 58, were intercepted at the Boadua Livingstone snap checkpoint in a Toyota Hilux pickup around 9:00pm.
After checking through, the ammunition were uncovered hiding inside the vehicle.
They were immediately taken into custody and transferred to the Akwatia Police Station for further questioning.
Asiedu told the investigators during preliminary interrogation that the ammunition belonged to their employer, identified only as Mohammed, who owns the Toyota Hilux inside which the cartridges were uncovered. Police say efforts are underway to track down Mohammed for questioning.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The incident comes at a time when security is under intense scrutiny in Akwatia, with political parties heightening campaigns ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested by-election.
The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured the public that the police will ensure maximum security during the exercise, warning potential troublemakers not to attempt to foment trouble on September 2.
