The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has toured the disputed mining concession at Manso Tontokrom to assess the situation and assure stakeholders of the government’s commitment to resolving the impasse peacefully and fairly.
During the tour, Dr. Amoakohene was accompanied by representatives from the Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the District Chief Executive (DCE), and other stakeholders.
As part of immediate safety measures, the Minister directed that all miners below the age of 18 be removed from the site, citing concerns about child labour and exploitation.
He also directed that all abandoned pits be covered without delay to prevent accidents and protect community members.
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that the government’s responsibility extends beyond resolving disputes to protecting lives, livelihoods, and the environment.
He expressed confidence that with calm, dialogue, and cooperation, a lasting solution can be found that serves the best interests of the community, Asanko, and the nation.
The Minister’s tour demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the mining sector in Ghana and ensuring that mining activities are carried out in a safe, responsible, and environmentally sustainable manner.
