Dozens of young people in the Mpohor District have secured employment opportunities under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), marking a major shift from the past when such slots were reserved for only a selected few.

Unlike previous recruitments, this year’s exercise has been described as more open and transparent, giving equal opportunity to all eligible youth in the constituency.

So far, 35 beneficiaries have been deployed under the Community Protection Assistants module with the Ghana Police Service, while nine others have joined the Fire Service Assistants module. Screening is currently ongoing for more recruits under the Prisons Service module.

The initiative is expected to ease the growing unemployment burden in the district, where many young people struggle to secure decent jobs.

Member of Parliament for Mpohor Constituency Kofi Bentil urged beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously and give it their best

“Myself, I am a youth and I understand the challenges of not having a job. Take this opportunity seriously and give your best to the country and to our district,” he urged.

He further hinted at sustained interventions tailored at equipping the youth with employable skills.

Already, 100 industrial sewing machines have been distributed to newly trained tailors and seamstresses in the constituency as part of a broader skills and entrepreneurship drive.

Gideon Bassewah, one of the beneficiaries under Police Assistant described the intervention as not just employment but also dignity and hope for the future.

For Barabara Winney a beneficiary under Fire Assistant, the intervention is life saving and a step to a hopeful future.

They however commended government and the Member of Parliament for the opportunity in getting a decent life sustaining job.
