The week-long final funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, known in the Asante tradition as ‘Dote Yie’, started on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Thousands of mourners, traditional leaders, and dignitaries from across Ghana and abroad gathered to pay their respects.

The first images from the ceremony capture key moments of the rites, including the arrival of the late queen mother’s body at the palace, ceremonial dances, and prayers led by spiritual leaders.

Fetish priestesses were also seen performing rituals, highlighting the deep cultural and spiritual traditions of the Ashanti Kingdom.

The funeral ceremony will continue till Thursday, September 18, 2025, featuring several traditional rituals and performances that honour the life and legacy of Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The events underscore the rich cultural heritage of the Asante people and the high esteem in which the late Asantehemaa was held.
