The Chief Executive of Kwabre East Municipal Assembly, Mr Joseph Amankwah, has said that plans are far advanced to deploy a taskforce to check congestion by traders selling on pavements within the Central Business District (CBD) of Mamponten and other communities in the municipality.
The move forms part of the Assembly’s quest to improve vehicular and pedestrian movement on walkways and is in line with efforts to make the municipality one of the cleanest cities in Ashanti Region.
Speaking on Ghanakoma morning show on Akoma 87.9FM in Kumasi with Sir John, on Monday, September 29,2025, Joseph Amankwah, explained that the task force will be rotated to avoid familiarity with the traders.
“What we will try to do is to place our taskforce at various places and also get a timeline to rotate them to prevent them from familiarising themselves with the traders.”
The Assembly recently embarked on a demolition and decongestion exercise.

Containers along the road were removed to reduce traffic congestion. Mr Amankwah told Sir John that, the goal of the exercise is to improve pedestrian and contractor access.
“This aims to boost business and long-term development in the area,” he stressed.
