The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has announced a significant reduction in crime within the municipality over the first three quarters of 2025, attributing the progress to intensified police operations and community vigilance.
Speaking at a community accountability durbar held within the municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ibrahim Fusseini Faila, said the Assembly, in collaboration with the police and other security agencies, has worked tirelessly to make Madina safer for residents and businesses.
“Madina is no longer a hideout for criminals. Through a series of targeted raids and intelligence-led operations, the police have succeeded in clamping down on criminal activities in various parts of the municipality,” the MCE stated.
He expressed satisfaction with the collaboration among the Assembly, traditional leaders, and community members, which he said has contributed to the drastic decline in crime.
Despite the progress, Mr. Faila called for the transfer of some police personnel stationed at the Madina Police Station who have served in the area for extended periods.
According to him, long postings can sometimes lead to familiarity with local elements, which may compromise the effectiveness of law enforcement operations.
“We appreciate the dedication of our police officers, but it is important that transfers are done periodically to ensure fresh perspectives and renewed commitment to duty,” he said.
The MCE appealed to the Ghana Police Service to consider his call as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and maintain discipline among officers within the municipality.
On the issue of sanitation, Mr. Faila reaffirmed the Assembly’s determination to enforce sanitation by-laws across communities within La Nkwantanang-Madina.
He noted that the Assembly has intensified monitoring exercises and will not hesitate to prosecute individuals and businesses who flout sanitation regulations.
“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. The Assembly will continue enforcing sanitation by-laws with renewed discipline to ensure Madina remains clean and healthy,” the MCE emphasized.
The durbar formed part of the Assembly’s community engagement and accountability initiative, aimed at updating residents on development projects, ongoing interventions, and future plans.
Residents who attended the event commended the Assembly for the visible improvement in security and sanitation but also appealed for more attention to be given to road rehabilitation, street lighting, and drainage management to prevent flooding.
Mr. Faila assured the public that the Assembly remains committed to improving infrastructure and social services to enhance the quality of life for residents.
