The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sefwi-Wiawso, Dominic Gyasi, has outlined a series of developmental projects achieved under his leadership within just six months in office.

Speaking at a press briefing themed “Transparency and Accountability in Local Governance”, Mr. Gyasi revealed that 43 communities have been connected to the national electricity grid, bringing relief and opportunities to residents.

He explained that the initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Kofi Benteh Afful, and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In addition, streetlights were installed in various areas to help curb crime and improve security.

Education and Social Support

On education, the MCE announced the provision of:

  • 85 mono desks and 85 dual desks to schools
  • Six desktop computers and other educational materials
  • 71,413 sanitary pads for basic schools and 38,119 for senior high schools
  • 13 students awarded scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year

He noted that these interventions were aimed at promoting quality education and reducing barriers to learning, especially for girls.

Infrastructure Development

Mr. Gyasi also mentioned the construction of three-unit classroom blocks at Penakrom, Pewodie, and Nyamebekyere, which are currently underway.

Furthermore, the Assembly has prioritized the completion of stalled projects, including:
A two-storey hostel facility at Asafo Nursing and Midwifery Training College, and a 45-bed maternity block at the Sefwi-Wiawso Government Hospital.

Commitment to Accountability

The MCE emphasized that these projects form part of President John Dramani Mahama’s “Resetting Agenda,” which seeks to strengthen citizen participation, transparency, and accountability in local governance.

Mr. Gyasi assured the people of Sefwi-Wiawso that the Assembly will continue to pursue development initiatives that address the pressing needs of the municipality.
