A prompt and decisive response from the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Matthew K. Ayeh, has led to the closure of an illegal mining site at Bobow Wokɛta, near Appiatse, in the Western Region.

Acting on a tip-off received through the Anti-Galamsey Rapid Response Line, Ayeh, together with the District Police Commander, swiftly moved to the site. However, the illegal miners fled before the team’s arrival.

Upon inspection, the team discovered a washing plant, an excavator, and makeshift wooden shelters believed to have been used by the operators.

According to the MCE the said devastation were done by some Chinese with the help of some Ghanaians.

“They took to their heels when they saw us, they have left behind an excavator we are making arrangements to move it out of this site”.

The team set on fire makeshift structures used by the illegal miners.

Mr Ayeh in reaffirming his administration’s zero tolerance for illegal mining urged residents to be vigilant and report any form of illegal mining to the rapid response team.

“We will not relent in our efforts to safeguard our lands and water bodies. Anyone engaging in galamsey in this municipality should take this as a warning,” he stated.
