A group of illegal miners that are forcefully destroying farmlands at Benkasa in the Berekum West district of the Bono region have been chased out of the place.

The galamsay site which has been an emerging one in the Benkasa community has attracted the attention of both political and traditional leadership, as well as the community folks, prompting the NDC Chairman to take action.

James Ntim, the NDC Chairman of Berekum West, together with his Communication Officer, James Effah, and others, stormed the galamsay site on Sunday, October 12, 2025, to drive the perpetrators out.

The illegal miners upon seeing the team took to their heels. But the team managed to gather their equipment left for operation at site including pomping machines, pipe holes, generators among others and handed them over to the police on Sunday.

The case has since been reported to the Berekum police division for further investigation to be conducted.

Meanwhile, some residents in the district have expressed their appreciation to the team for taking such a bold step to reduce the canker in the area help curb the emerging galamsay activities in the Benkasa community.
