The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga has described the numbers of Minority Members of Parliament as “minuscule” following the New Patriotic Party’s loss in Akwatia by-election and their unwillingness to contest in the Tamale Central by-election.
Addressing Members of Parliament on the floor of the House on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, he said the Minority MPs are no more a micro Minority but a “Minuscule Minority”.
He noted that the NDC Majority on the other side have become a “gargantuan Majority” with their numbers increasing from 183 to 185.
“With these two elections and the one that took place in Ablekuma, the House is fully constituted. The Independent Members of this House remain 4. The NPP which previously had a micro minority of 88 members has had its number shrink further to 87.
“Mr. Speaker, I believe they are no longer a micro minority but a minuscule Minority. Micro could actually be a large number because Micro is a unit of measurement.
“In English when you want to describe something as very small, you say miniscule. The NDC super majority will ballon to 185 and when we add the four independent members who have agreed to do business with us, the NDC would become a gargantuan majority,” he stated.
Two new MPs have been sworn as the House reconvened on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 following its recess.
Prof. Alidu Seidu and Bernard Bediako were administered the Oath of allegiance and Oath as Member of Parliament after they were sworn in as Tamale Central MP and Akwatia MP respectively.
According to him, the NDC government has performed “excellent” since assuming government.
“All I can say is Mr. Speaker, so far, so excellent, During recess, MPs had the opportunity to observe the impact of work we did during our previous meetings. The budget we approved, the laws we passed and the policies underpinning them. Our engagements reveal the persistent urgent need to address youth unemployment. We must ensure that our laws and the policies that we enact create jobs.”
