The Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has stated that his Office is collaborating closely with other legal experts to ensure that individuals implicated in the ORAL reports, which were investigated by the NIB, do not evade accountability.
He indicates that his office is working in conjunction with other legal luminaries and attorneys within his team to construct robust cases, thereby limiting potential avenues for defence attorneys to secure acquittals.
His remarks follow the completion of investigations by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) into 12 corruption and corruption-related cases submitted by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, to provide update on these cases, the Attorney-General stated that his office is undertaking the requisite measures to prosecute these matters, in line with the government’s goal of reclaiming funds and other state assets purportedly mismanaged by erstwhile government officials.
He noted that the NIB’s expertise was engaged because the reports submitted by the public to the ORAL committee lacked sufficient basis to establish criminality.
Dr. Ayine elaborated that the case files are being meticulously reviewed to guarantee a favourable outcome for the state in the ensuing legal proceedings.
“When the dockets are brought to my office, I go through them diligently with the prosecution staff –the Attorneys in the prosecution division and other lawyers we work with and then we can build a case and advice the investigators as to what to do when we find loopholes that may be exploited by defence attorneys,” he stated.
