Deputy Communications Director of the United Party, Ebo Buckman has described former President Akufo-Addo’s breakfast meeting with the flagbearer candidates of the New Patriotic Party as a panic reaction to the formation of the United Party.

In an interview on 3FM Sunrise on October 22 with Eric Mawuena Egbeta, Ebo Buckman argued that the NPP’s internal divisions would cost the party in the 2028 general elections.

“Akufo-Addo’s breakfast meeting with the NPP flagbearer candidates was a panic reaction. The campaign has been acrimonious for some time and so why are they now meeting to redirect the internal campaign of the party?” He said.

Mr Backman also stated that, “it’s because they know the effect of what we the (United Party) are doing. And that if they continue to do what they are doing, with the coming in of the United Party we are going to be the beneficiary.”

Mr Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, hosted a breakfast meeting with the five flagbearer aspirants of the NPP at his private residence in Nima, Accra.

The meeting was convened by the former President to foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s flagbearer election scheduled for 31st January 2026, and to underscore the critical importance of a inted party for the 2028 general elections.

In his remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed his profound gratitude to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread with him. He stated that their presence was a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.
