Upon receiving a tip off, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Prestea Huni-Valley, Mathew Ayeh, alongside the Municipal Security Council, uncovered an illegal mining operation in the Akokobedi Aburoo residential area of Bogoso.

At the site, the team found two excavators. One was immobilized in the mud, prompting officials to disable it by removing its control board and essential components. The second excavator was successfully seized and transported to the municipal assembly.

MCE Mathew Ayeh expressed his profound disappointment over the incident, stating that it undermines the government’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities.

“I’m very sad today. It is disheartening to see such destruction—how people, for the sake of money, can thoughtlessly damage the land and compromise our children’s future. We learned of this site through a tip-off this morning, and I immediately sent security officers to inspect it.

The scale of the damage is deeply upsetting. Although the perpetrators escaped, we have confiscated two excavators. I promise you, we will ensure they do not return to this site.” Mathew Ayeh told journalists.
