Sunyanimanhene, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II, has held a high-level meeting with officials from Zoomlion Ghana Limited, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), and Sunyani Technical University regarding the continued use of the GETFund Hostel area in Sunyani as a refuse dumping site.

During the meeting, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen KorKor II expressed strong concern over the environmental and health implications of maintaining a dumping site close to schools, hospitals, hostels, and residential homes. He emphasized that such a location poses serious environmental hazards and compromises public health.

He ordered Zoomlion to relocate the dumping site from the GETFund Hostel area to Nwanwasua, a site previously allocated for waste disposal.

He gave a strict deadline of 31st December 2025 for the relocation and further directed that the current site be cleared and thoroughly cleaned after the move.

In his remarks, the chief also highlighted the presence of the Sunyani River near the current dump site, stating that the river holds cultural and traditional significance. It is used by Nananom for purification and traditional rites and thus must be protected from pollution.

Odeefour tasked the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to closely monitor and supervise the entire relocation and cleanup process to ensure compliance with environmental standards.

The stakeholders assured the traditional ruler of their commitment to executing the directive promptly and effectively.
