A 25-year-old army officer, Ishmael Arthur, has won the 2025 Akoma FM Marathon.
He covered the competitions’ total distance of 21 kilometers finishing at 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 55 seconds.
Arthur went home with a cash prize of GHS5,000, a certificate, a plaque award, and some products from sponsors of this year’s competition.
In an interview with Arthur, he said he is using the Akoma FM marathon as a springboard for international recognition.
“I feel very happy for winning the competition. It is my dream to compete at the international stage and also gain international recognition like the Kenyans have been doing, ” he told 3news.com William Evans-Nkum.
Prosper Koomson, the reigning champion, could not defend his title. He emerged 3rd.
He finished with 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 12 seconds.
“I trained hard to defend my title, but that did not happen; I feel sad, though, but I hope to return to winning ways in the next competition,” he said.
Prosper walked home with GHS2000 cash prize, a plaque award, and products from sponsors.
David Nakousi, a student at the University of Ghana, finished 3rd with a cash prize of GHS1,500.
In the female category, 19-year-old SHS leaver from the Aduman Senior High School, Alimatu Iddrisu, finished at a record time of 1 hour, 22 minutes, and 35 seconds.

“I feel fantastic; I want to advance to the international stage,” she said.
Alimatu also won a cash prize of GHS5,000, a plaque award and products from sponsors.
Ayaaba Joyce and Erica Boateng took the second and third positions respectively, they also took home GHS2000 and GHS1,500 cash each.
On the sidelines of the marathon, the security agencies also engaged in some athletic competitions.
The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority won the arm-wrestling competition with the Fire Service personnel grabbing the tug-of-war competition title.
Station Manager of Akoma 87.9FM, Ransford Nana Osei Asare thanked participants and sponsors for making this year’s competition a memorable one.
“We have been consistent in the last four years with this event. It has come to stay, and we have achieved this by the grace of God and our management. The CEO, Madam Beatrice Agyemang, our COO Mr Nuamah Eshun-Famiyeh, and the entire staff of Akoma FM who have given it all to ensure the success of this event. As we continue to improve on our performance each year, we are expecting another exceptional performance in the years ahead,” he said.
