Residents of Salaga in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region have announced plans to stage a demonstration against the Volta River Authority (VRA) over what they describe as persistent and unbearable power fluctuations in the town.

The angry residents say weeks of unstable electricity supply have disrupted economic activities, damaged electrical appliances, and made life difficult for households and businesses. According to them, several complaints to authorities have not been addressed, leaving them with no option but to protest.

Speaking to the media, some residents expressed frustration over the situation. “Our businesses are collapsing because machines cannot run. Fridges, TVs and other appliances get spoiled every week. We cannot continue like this,” one shop owner lamented.

Another resident noted that students and schoolchildren are also affected. “Our children cannot study at night because the lights keep going off. We are suffering,” she added.

Community leaders say the protest is aimed at drawing urgent attention from VRA and relevant government agencies. The demonstration is expected to take place tomorrow 5th November 2025 with hundreds of residents anticipated to participate.

The residents are calling on VRA to immediately fix the power supply problem, ensure stable electricity, and compensate those whose electrical gadgets have been damaged as a result of the fluctuations.
