The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Akwasi Konadu, is making a suggestion to the government on how to address the illegal small-scale mining menace (Galamsey).

He called on the Mahama government to leverage real-time surveillance through drone technology and satellite imaging to enhance monitoring of high-risk mining zones.

According to him, this will enable a swift response to emerging illegal activities.

Mr Akwasi Konadu said this on the floor of the House when he made a statement on the rise in deaths due to illegal mining.

He emphasised that the government should invest in community-based mining cooperatives and bring them under a robust regulatory framework that will enforce strict environmental and safety standards.

Other Members of Parliament who contributed to the statement include the MP for Bimbilla Hon. Dominic Nitiwul, MP for Guan Hon. Fred Agbenyo, MP for Wassa East Hon. Isaac Adjei-Mensah.

Meanwhile, National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) continues to strike at the heart of illegal mining.

This time, they flushed out illegal miners at Bronikrom – Hwediem, in the Ahafo Region.

They arrested Galamsey operators, including a Burkinabe, at a Galamsey site about 10 meters from the main HWEDIEM – GOASO Highway
