Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) has said government will fully compensate the company if it terminates contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority and Finance Ministry.
This follows President Mahama’s directive to terminate all contracts between the company, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The President, through a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, directed the immediate termination of all agreements involving SML, following the conclusion of an OSP investigation which alleged procurement breaches, contractual overreach, and questioned the genuine need for such a contract with SML.
The decision comes after an investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) into SML’s revenue assurance contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The OSP after its investigation concluded that the SML contract with GRA was reckless, fraught with procurement breaches, was illegal and demonstrated no value-for-money.
“If somebody wants the job, the person can go ahead and take the job but then they shouldn’t seek to tarnish the image of SML in the quest of taking that job. That is what we are definitely not going to allow,” he stated.
The company said it fully cooperated with all investigations and called for public discussions to be grounded in verified facts rather than speculation.
“Now in the OSP’s presser, it was filled insinuations, speculative remarks, innuendos, assumptions and veiled accusations rather than presenting clear facts and evidence to the Ghanaian people,” he stated.
