The National Anti-illegal mining operations secretariat (NAIMOS) task force, has arrested 36 illegal miners at Osino in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
Out of those apprehended, 32 are foreign nationals of Nigerien descent, while four are Ghanaians.
During the operations carried out in the night, the task force seized several mining equipment and distabilised a group of machete wielding men who attempted to resist the arrest.

In another operation in the Birim North District, several miners were arrested there as well.
The suspects in police custody to be are arraigned for court as the taskforce intensify the clamp down of illegal mining activities.

The Eastern Regional National security laison officer, Francis Annor Dompreh, says the exercise would continue unbated.
