The Upper West Regional Police Command foiled a highway robbery attempt on the Wa-Nyoli road in the early hours of Thursday, November 6, 2025.
A single sheet statement issued and signed by the Regional Police Command, DCOP. Francis Yiribare, and copied to 3news.com, has it that the police patrol team intervened and prevented the armed robbery operation between the Kongolmo and Tanina communities, rescuing two SsangYong mini vans and their passengers.
The statement said the suspected robbers, numbering four, had concealed themselves in the surrounding vegetation and opened fire on the vehicles, diverting them to a nearby bush.
“The police patrol team, responding swiftly to the gunfire, advanced to the scene and came under sporadic fire from the assailants,” it stated.
Exercising precision and professionalism, the team returned fire, forcing the robbers to retreat into the bush.
DCOP. Yiribare said, there was no casualties recorded during the exchange, and all passengers and their vehicles were rescued unharmed.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, commended the bravery and prompt response of the police personnel involved in the operation.
He has also reminded drivers and transport operators to strictly adhere to police escort procedures on the various highways, emphasizing that these security arrangements are designed for their safety.
