The Upper West Regional Police Command has seized 192 compressed wraps of substances suspected to be cocaine in Wa, the Upper West regional capital.
The suspects, arrested in connection with an alleged narcotics trafficking and distribution network, have been identified as 26-year-old Isaac Abdulai, a driver’s mate, and Iddrisu Kamaldeen.
The arrests followed credible intelligence received on the transportation of suspected cocaine from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave, leading to surveillance along the suspected route.
Confirming the arrest, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare said “Yes, I can confirm two individuals in our custody for the possession and distribution of substances that are suspected to be cocaine.”
According to the Police, the operation led to the interception of Abdulai at the ESP Bus Station in Wa on September 6, 2026.
DCOP Yiribaare explained that the substances were tested in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission and confirmed to be cocaine.
“They were arrested and through the collaboration with NACOC, we have conducted a field test on the substances and proved to be cocaine,” he stated.
He said the two have since been arraigned and remanded into custody. “The suspects are currently in custody on remand, they were put before the courts and they are to reappear on the 9th of October,” he added.
The Police say investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the distribution network and possible accomplices.
