The Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei, has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the referral of Alexander Afenyo-Markin to the Privileges Committee for attending an ECOWAS Parliament meeting when his name was removed from the official delegation list.

According to them, the referral of Afenyo-Markin to the Privileges Committee is “gross abuse of process and affront to Justice.”

According to the Asokwa legislator, Ghana’s delegation was unconstitutional, saying she rejected her inclusion to replace Afenyo-Markin but the Speaker refused, a move that caused an international embarrassment at the ECOWAS front.

She wants the Majority Leader to issue a public apology to the ECOWAS Parliament and Ghanaians for what she describes as “international embarrassment.”

“We in the Minority demand the immediate withdrawal of the Privileges Committee’s petition. A public apology from the Speaker and Majority Leader to ECOWAS and to the people of Ghana for the international embarrassment they caused,” she stated.

The Minority Caucus also want a new delegation list passed to include Afenyo-Markin’s name.

“The passage of a resolution restoring Honourable Afenyo-Markin’s name to Ghana’s ECOWAS delegation and affirming Ghana’s commitment to the rule of law under Article 75 of the constitution,” she said.

The Minority called for “an end to the coordinated persecution of the Minority Leader by the Attorney-General’s office, NDC party foot soldiers.”

She continued: “And finally, the prosecution of Chief Sofo Azorka for his public threat of violence against the Minority Leader.”
