The leadership of Ghana’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has held a day’s comprehensive engagement with journalists, police, GPRTU, and other stakeholders on plans to roll out the new vehicle registration number plate.
The Capacity-building engagement took place in Wa on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, and forms part of an effort to educate key stakeholders on the features, legal bases, procedures, and justification upon which the new number plate policy is set to start in January 2026.
Kafui Semevor, the Director in charge of Driver Training, Testing and Licencing, in a deep-centred presentation highlighted the distinctive features and security enhancements of the yet-to-be-rolled-out new plates.

He said the new number plates are expected to improve public safety and security while also preventing the registration of stolen vehicles.
“It will also ensure proper identification of vehicle owners and update the database of registered vehicles in Ghana”, he stated.
Semevor said the registration of first-timers (new vehicles) will start in January 2026, with old registration vehicles to be re-registered from June 2026, and is expected to end in December 2027.
The stakeholders, while seeking clarity on certain issues, also gave their inputs for a smooth transition.
Some traditional rulers who participated in the engagement lauded the Authority for coming to their level with the policy and pledged their full support toward the successful rollout.
