The Paramount Chief of the Bole Traditional Area and President of the Bole Traditional Council, Bolewura Sarfo Kutugefeso I, is making an urgent appeal to traditional rulers to invest royalties into science and mathematics education in their traditional areas.

The Bolewura believes, the learning of science and mathematics at the basic level especially, is critical to the development of the foundation of the children.

Addressing stakeholders at the grand finale of the 5th edition of the Kutugefeso Science and Maths Quiz in Bole, the chief, highlighted the impact of science and mathematics education and called for a wholistic approach to the use of chieftaincy royalties to fund educational activities

“We have a National Science and Maths competition, and we all see how every second cycle institution takes it serious. I believe as traditional rulers we can equally invest in similar competitions at the basic level using the royalties we receive.”

“As revealed by the recent WASSCE results, students have failed woefully in mathematics and we need to ensure that the very foundation of education which is the basic level is strengthened,” he said.

He encouraged students to take up the study of science and mathematics serious as it is a key determiner in their educational journey.

Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi Constituency and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Yussif Sulemana, admonished students to take keen interest in very critical subjects such as science, mathematics and English.

“Be motivated by some of these initiatives and take advantage to explore more in these subjects and I believe that will contribute greatly to your interest and understanding in these subjects”

He pledged his full support to the KutugeFeso Annual Science and Maths Quiz for basic schools.

“Bolewura’s contribution to education is immeasurable and we need to encourage him to do more,” he said.

Cocoa Research Junior High School in Bole was crowned champions of the 2025 Kutugefeso Science and Maths Quiz after a thrilling and highly competitive grand finale.

The grand finale, brought together three outstanding schools namely; Cocoa Research JHS, Sawla Girls Model JHS, and Bole St. Kizito ‘B’ R/C JHS each of which qualified after weeks of rigorous zonal contests across the Bole Traditional Area.

Cocoa Research JHS emerged victorious with an impressive 52 points ahead of Sawla Girls Model JHS with 45 points and St. Kizito ‘B’ R/C JHS with 33 points.

Marking its 5th edition, the Kutugefeso Science and Maths Quiz continues to introduce reforms aimed at raising academic standards and enhancing teaching and learning in science and mathematics.

The competition has become a key barometer for assessing the academic progress of basic schools within the traditional area.
