The St Louis Jubilee in Kumasi on Friday, December 5,2025 won the maiden Akoma FM ‘Sharp Pen’ competition.
The contest, designed for Basic Schools in Ashanti Region, was launched on July,22,2025.
The competition focuses on building the 21st century skills among children.
The contest helped to enhance critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills of the children.

Sixteen schools participated and were drawn from Kumasi Metro, Ejisu Municipality Bosomtwe District, Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality, Kwabre East Municipality and Oforikrom Municipality.
ST Louis Jubilee School won 75 points and received medals, citation, souvenirs from sponsors and cash prize of Ghc7,500.
The Afaus Lovely School from Ayigya came second with 69 points and received medals, citation, souvenirs from sponsors plus cash prize of Ghc6,500 with Golden State Academy winning 3rd place 60 points and received medals, citation, souvenirs from sponsors plus cash prize of Ghc6,000.

The competition which covered four rounds was centred on English Language (spellings, spot the errors, homophones and riddles)
The Station Manager of Akoma FM, Ransford Nana Osei Asare, stated that modern technology is being employed to expand the reach of the competition.
He said the purpose of the competition is to test the students critical thinking when it comes to English.
He was happy about the performances of the contestants.
“The competition was a fierce one. We are excited about the result,” he said.
He said the use of audio visual made the contest more appealing.
The Lead Trainer of the winning School, Kofi Owusu Ansah, commended the Management of Akoma FM on this initiative.
He said the competition has given them enough grounds to take part in future competition.
“We thank God, Akoma FM, our Management and parents on this marvelous victory. Competition is a very good thing. We need to come and show what we have learnt”, he said.
Akosua Boakyewaa Boateng, student of Louis Jubilee School, was also excited about the victory.
She promised that her school will defend the title next year.
She said she was quite tensed when the competition started but encouragement from their trainers helped them.
“I was quite tensed during the competition, but I thank God we made it through the effort of our trainers. I would like to thank God, family, friends and our trainers for supporting us,” she said.
