Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, host of Connect FM’s flagship morning show Omanbapa, has been appointed as an ambassador for the first Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Project in the Western Region.

The appointment, conferred by the Western Regional Co-ordinating Council (WRCC), is in recognition of his outstanding influence in the media space and his long-standing contribution to public discourse within the region.

A formal appointment letter signed by the Western Regional Minister acknowledges his commitment to supporting the yet-to-be-established first ICU in tye Western Region at the Takoradi Hospital.

The statement indicated that the gesture is to “formally acknowledge and appreciate your commitment to supporting the project,” as the region moves to provide improved healthcare services for critically ill patients.

It further emphasized that Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson’s role as ambassador requires him to use his media platforms, voice, and professional influence to promote public awareness and inspire both corporate, individual, and community support for the initiative.

“In recognition of your influence in the media landscape and your longstanding contribution to public discourse in the region, we are pleased to designate you as an Ambassador for the ICU Project,” part of the statement stated.

The ambassadorial appointment comes as part of efforts to raise support for the construction of a 4-bed Intensive Care Unit at the Takoradi Hospital, formerly known as the European Hospital.

Established in 1929, the facility serves as one of the main hospitals for residents of Sekondi-Takoradi and receives referrals from numerous health centres across the Western Region.

The Takoradi Hospital currently operates without an ICU, resulting in critically ill patients being managed on general wards.

In many cases, patients who require intensive care must be referred to other hospitals in Cape Coast or Accra.

These gaps contribute to preventable deaths and limit the hospital’s capacity to handle medical emergencies.

As ambassador, Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson is expected to lead public engagement, drive fundraising advocacy, and support coordinated communication activities to make the project a reality.
