This December, Connect 97.1FM is set to elevate the Christmas experience in Takoradi through two major partnership events.

The station has teamed up with the Centre for National Culture and the Supreme Masqueraders Society to offer a unique and vibrant celebration.

The festivities begin on December 18, with the inaugural Unmask360 event, led by the Center for National Culture, Western Region.

This showcase is designed to highlight the intricate and beautiful costumes being crafted by over 40 masquerading clubs in Sekondi-Takoradi. Following this, from December 24 to 27, the Supreme Ankos Village will debut, organized by the Supreme Masqueraders Society.

Mawusi Dotse, Head of Sales at Connect 97.1 FM, stated that these events are designed not only for public enjoyment but also to boost local tourism and commerce during the Christmas season.

Kassim Mireku, Acting Western Regional Director for the Center for National Culture, explained the vision behind the Unmask360 event and the partnership with Connect FM.

“Our region is home to the highest number of masquerade groups in Ghana. For this reason, we are bringing them all together on one stage to unveil the costumes they are sewing,” Mireku said.

“Currently, all the groups are secretly designing and stitching their costumes, hidden from public view. No one knows what they are preparing for the festive season.

“We have set this day to bring the symbolic themes of all the masquerade groups to light. They will unveil their costumes in an event we have dubbed ‘Unmask360—Every Stitch Tells a Story.’ We want to bring those stories to life for the audience,” he added.

Mireku also noted that the event will extend beyond the masquerade groups. “We are incorporating brass bands, influential personalities, and artists to present a unique case that Sekondi-Takoradi is the Christmas destination.”

Meanwhile, Micheal Pomadey, an Executive Member of the Supreme Masqueraders Society, promised that the maiden Ankos Village event will be phenomenal. He encouraged residents and tourists to make the Western Region their Christmas destination.

“It is a full fun package comprising food, great music, games, and a whole host of activities,” said Pomadey.

He added that the Supreme Masqueraders Society will culminate the festive season with an anniversary dinner on December 28th at the GPHA Senior Club House, celebrating their 25th year.

“As part of our 25th-anniversary celebrations, we are hosting a dinner that is open not only to our members but to all members of other masquerade groups as well,” Mr. Pomadey stated.
