The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has opened a two-day Regional Crime Officers’ Conference aimed at strengthening the investigative capacity of crime officers across the country.

The conference, which brought together Crime Officers from all twenty-five Police Regions, also attracted Directors from selected units at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters. It is designed to highlight the critical role of Crime Officers in criminal investigations and to enhance professionalism in the fight against crime.

The IGP, accompanied by members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), emphasized the growing importance of effective investigations in modern policing. According to him, evolving and increasingly sophisticated crime trends require advanced investigative techniques, high professional standards, and continuous capacity building.

“Contemporary criminal activities demand a new level of expertise and adaptability from our Crime Officers,” the IGP noted. “To remain effective and relevant, we must continuously upgrade our investigative approaches and strengthen the professional competencies of officers on the ground.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the investigative capabilities of the Ghana Police Service, stressing that enhanced investigative standards are key to staying ahead of criminal networks and restoring public confidence in law enforcement.

The IGP further encouraged officers to embrace innovation, teamwork, and discipline as essential tools in combating crime and ensuring justice.

In a welcome address, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department, COP/Ms. Lydia Yaako Donkor, urged participants to actively engage in the conference discussions. She underscored the link between quality investigations and successful prosecutions, noting that weak investigations often undermine the administration of justice.
