Lawyer Martin Kpebu has said that huge investment in agriculture can help resolve the unemployment situation in Ghana.
He makes the point that Ghana has huge arable lands that can be used for farming. In doing so, he said, the unemployment rate will go down.
“It’s not an enviable position at all to be in government and be saddled with huge unemployment. Unemployment is a national security threat, has been threatening since the late 90s.
“Why can’t we just ramp up agriculture with the huge arable lands we have. We have so much land, and once we have land, we should solve the problem,” he said on the KeyPoints on TV3 Saturday, December 20, in relation to the new labour reports released by the Ghana Statistical Service.
The report of the GSS said that between the first and third quarters of 2025, employment in Ghana increased by over 330,000 people.
Dr Iddrisu said that more people are working, and the labour force remains strong.

Dr Alhassan Iddrisu said this when he released the Labour Forces Statistics 2025 Quarters 1 to 3, in Accra on Thursday, December 18. He further announced that unemployment among young people aged 15 to 24 years was high at 34.4% in 3rd Quarter of 2025.
He also said that about 1.34 million of youth in this age group were not in employment, education or training. Youth labour underutilisation remains high.

Dr Alhassan Iddrisu said this when he released the Labour Forces Statistics 2025 Quarters 1 to 3, in Accra on Thursday, December 18.
He further revealed that Ghana’s unemployment rate was 13.1%in Q4 2024 , 12.8% inQ1 2025, 12.6% IN Q2 and 13.0% in Q3. Employment is growing, but unemployment remains largely unchanged.
