About six shops, including the famous Asanka Restaurant at Top Ridge in Takoradi, have been destroyed by fire.

Properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis were lost in the inferno, a situation exacerbated by a delayed response from the National Fire Service.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started around 9:45 pm in one of the shops within the enclave.

Seidu, a security guard in the area, said the blaze resulted from an electrical explosion in one of the meters mounted on the shops.
Within minutes, the fire had spread to two others nearby, blazing wildly.

Local residents braved the odds to try and extinguish the flames while others frantically attempted to contact the Fire Service.

Frustration intensified as the fire continued to spread. News of the inferno went viral, prompting other shop owners to rush to the scene in an attempt to salvage what they could.

By 10:42 pm, three fire tenders had arrived at the scene, but the damage was already done. Two shops were completely razed, with four others partially burnt. Fire officers spent approximately 30 minutes extinguishing the blaze.
