The premises of Akoma in Asokwa in Ashanti Region was transformed into a sanctuary of divine praise on Monday, December 22, 2025, as the Akoma 87.9fm’s Nine Lessons and Carols Night delivered a masterclass in festive celebration.
The event, which has become a cornerstone of the Ghanaian Christmas calendar, drew thousands of patrons from across the Asokwa Municipality and other parts of Kumasi for an event that seamlessly blended the solemnity of the nativity story with the high-energy rhythms of contemporary gospel and traditional highlife.
From the moment the curtains rose, it was clear that this was no ordinary carol service.
There was a powerhouse lineup of choir including Vox Del Choir Gh, our in-house singing team among others, who led the audience through a medley of classic hits and soulful carols.
True to the tradition of the service, the nine lessons were read by a diverse group of prominent personalities, ranging from corporate executives to fan-favourite Akoma FM staff.
The readings, which trace the biblical story of the fall of humanity, the promise of a Messiah, and the birth of Jesus, were delivered with a uniquely Ghanaian touch.
Between each lesson, the audience was treated to carols with a twist—familiar hymns like “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World” reimagined with African percussion and others.
Beyond the music, the night was a showcase of Ghanaian fashion and comedy.
The night culminated in a praise jam that saw the entire premises of Akoma FM on its feet.
Visitors to the mall were attracted by the event.
As the clock approached midnight, the performers joined together for a final rendition of “Afehyia Pa”, leaving the audience with a sense of renewed hope and festive joy.
Pastor John Nyarkoh Akyirle of Pentecost International Worship Centre, urged Christians to inculcate the habit of thanksgiving by focusing on the aspects of life rather than the negative.
“As Christians, we have to learn to always have faith in God and desist from murmuring and complaining because being grateful also attracts blessings from the Almighty God”.
He indicated that, having a positive attitude towards life is one of the traits of a good Christian, adding that a life of ingratitude does not please God.
The Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Amoh Kamel, called on Christians and Ghanaians to abandon sinful behaviours.
He also called for peace ahead of the Christmas and 2026.
“Let’s maintain peace in Ghana. Let’s forgive each other.
The Asokwahene, Nana Fi Baamoah, urged Christians to live out their faith not only in church but every area of their lives.
According to him, Christianity should be visible in one’s actions at work, at home, and other places.
“Let’s not only honour Christ with our songs and church activities. Let us honour Him with our lives. People should be able to see Christ in us, not just because we go to church, but because of the way we live day by day”.
He called on the media to help maintain peace in the country.
