A Professor at the University of Ghana Business School, Godfred Bokpin, has said that there is a need to move away from celebrating the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to focus on job creation.
He makes the point that globally, people are moving away from glorifying GDP growth.
“The economy will continue to dominate the political discussions, especially when we are talking about job growth…we have to look beyond GDP growth and look at Job growth,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 27.
He added, “People have finished school, and they are looking for jobs.”
For his part, private legal practitioner Martin Kpbeu expressed the view that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot win the 2028 general elections.
He says it is practically impossible for a party that lost the previous election by over 1.7 million votes to, all of a sudden, emerge and win the next election.
“NPP cannot win the 2028 election,” he said on the Key Points on TV3, Saturday, December 27. he added, “Unless the NDC loot more than the NPP did.”
For his part, Former lawmaker for Asante Akim North, Kwame Andy Appiah Kubi, said that Dr Bryan Acheampong will really show up in the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party.
He says that with one month to go to the internal polls, the dynamics can change in favour of Bryan Acheampong
“A surprised candidate in the person of Bryan Acheampong will emerge; it is not settled yet…I am sure something drastic can happen, and the dynamics can change,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, December 27.
His comments came after Executive Director of the Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, said the survey shows that the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party will be closer than what happened in 2023.
In the NPP 2023 primaries, Dr Bawumia won by a convincing margin, getting 61.47% of the votes. His closest rival, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, got 37.4% of the vote.
Ahead of the 2026 January 31 primary, Mussa Dankwa said on TV3’s Key Points Saturday, December 27 that “The election will be closer than the last time.”
A recent survey by the Global InfoAnalytics said that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is inching closer to the victory mark,
Five people, including the former Vice President, are contesting the NPP’s January 31st primary, and with campaigning in the final month, Global InfoAnalytics December poll reported that Dr Bawumia, who has been leading the outfit’s monthly survey since it started, is still in a commanding lead and has pinched closer to the 50% mark one clear month to the election.
In its “likely voters survey”, Dr Bawumia leads with 45%, while Kennedy Agyapong is second with 31%, Bryan Acheampong follows with 3%, while Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum and Kwabena Agyapong have near zero per cent each.
However, a significant percentage of delegates are still up for grabs, as a total of 20% of delegates are either undecided or did not want to disclose their votes.
According to the survey, which was conducted through a random computer-assisted telephone interview of about 3000 delegates, Kennedy Agyapong made 13% gains on his November output, while Dr Bawumia moved closer to the 50% threshold by 2 per cent.
