The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has said that it swiftly brought under control a fire outbreak that gutted two (2) shops near the Royal VVIP Bus Terminal, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra, on Friday, January 02, 2026.
A statement issued by the GNFS on January 3 indicated the incident was reported at 2040 hours at the Circle Fire Station.
“Due to a faulty fire engine at the station, the call was promptly relayed to Fire Master Control, which dispatched the Industrial Area Fire Station as the first pump.
Firefighters from the Industrial Area Fire Station arrived at the scene at 2050 hours to find the fire at an advanced stage. The duty officer subsequently requested additional support, leading to the dispatch of two (2) fire engines from the National Headquarters and Accra City Fire Stations,” GNFS explained.
The statement added that, “The fire was brought under control at 2108 hours and fully extinguished at 2322 hours, successfully preventing it from spreading to several adjoining shops.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started from one shop and spread to another. Two (2) shops were badly damaged by the fire but their contents sustained partial damage. No casualties were recorded, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.”
