Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu says he and his outfit are committed to reviving the Komenda Sugar Factory and to achieve this, he disclosed that Zoomlion Ghana Limited has intervened to support the effort.

According to him, selected human resources have been deployed to Kenya to gain hands-on training in the operational and technical aspects of the sugar industry, equipping them to take over management and give the factory a complete facelift.

Speaking on Onua Fm’s Yen Nsempa morning show on January 8, he described it as disheartening how the Komenda Sugar Factory has been politicised over the years and reduced to mere lip service, despite its immense potential to transform the local economy.

Dr. Asiedu noted that beyond the sugar factory, the Bawjiasi Starch Factory will also be revamped, as both projects form part of the major initiatives earmarked for implementation this year in the Central Region.

He explained that the government’s objective is to create an enabling environment for investors while ensuring that every young person has access to opportunities and resources needed to earn a decent livelihood.

Dr. Asiedu further expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that based on his proven delivery and impact in the region, he will be contesting the position of Central Regional Chairman again, although loyalists of Allotey Jacobs have also indicated their intention to vie for the chairmanship seat.
