The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has arrested a key suspect in the Wapuli kidnapping case following weeks of relentless surveillance.
On December 6, 2025, the PID team successfully rescued a 42-year-old man from kidnappers in Wapuli, leading to the arrest of three suspects, out of a syndicate of four.
The victim was subjected to life-threatening cutlass wounds, and the perpetrators successfully collected a ransom of GH¢90,000.00 out of a demanded GH¢100,000 as a condition for his release.
Police was able to retrieve GH¢70,000.00. The officers continued intensive intelligence gathering and a manhunt for the remaining accomplice.
A statement issued by the police on January 21, 2026 said the fourth and key suspect, Hoyeefe Amadu was arrested on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at about 01:30 am from his hideout in a village about 10km from the outskirts of Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu.
The other three suspects have been remanded into Prison custody pending reappearance in court.
