Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has urged all aspirants, supporters and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct themselves in a decent manner ahead of the flagbearer elections.
The NPP goes to the polls on Saturday, January 31, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
In a video recording of his message to the rank and file of the NPP, Mr Boakye Antwi, a General Secretary hopeful of the NPP, urged the supporters and the aspirants to embark on a campaign devoid of insults, insinuations and divisions.
“I want to respectfully urge all aspirants, delegates and supporters to conduct ourselves in decency, decorum, discipline and due respect. In the coming days, it should be a campaign on ideas, vision, records, not insults, insinuations or divisions. Our strength as a party has always been competing vigorously yet emerging united,” he said.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also urged all the flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party to prioritise unity after the election on January 31.
Speaking during the Peace Pact signing involving the five NPP aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, he said, “The ideology of the NPP remains attractive to Ghanaians. The NPP is bigger than any individual…unity is not an option, it is a strategic necessity to victory.”
He added, “The ideology of the New Patriotic Party remains deeply attractive to the majority of Ghanaians.”
For his part, Former Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye called for fairness in the process to elect a flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party.
He urged all the aspirants to also respect the party’s values throughout the process.
“Please do something honourable for the New Patriotic Party and our tradition,” he said.
He added that signing the peace pact is necessary, as past experiences of unfair practices, partiality, and extreme partisanship within the party had negatively affected unity.
“In saying this, I am mindful that unfair practices, partiality, and base partisanship happened in our party, which have destroyed or shaken our unity”, he added.
