Community leaders of Deme, a farming community in the Agave Traditional Area of the South Tongu District of the Volta Region have tasked citizens of the area both at home and abroad to help champion the community’s quest to establish a basic school.

The Secretary to the Anyigbeyia Clan of Deme, Sampson Dzukey who was addressing leaders of the community at a crucial development meeting at Agave noted that the establishment of a school in the community is long overdue.

According to him, even though the community of Deme is the seat of the Anyigbeyia Clan of Agbofeme with a vast area of land for its potential development, they continue to lack such basic amenities as a good access road, a basic school as well as a health post among others.

School children from the community, Mr. Dzukey stressed, walk over a long distance of about one hour every day to school at either Adutor or Dabala thereby exposing them to danger on the roads in the area including the main Dabala-Anloga-Keta Road.

It is against this b ackdrop that the Head of the Anyigbeyia Clan of Deme, Tator Agbo III organized the community unity forum to streamline development efforts including securing a primary school for their children.

The engagement was also used by the community leaders and elders to educate the youth on their lineage and that of the Deme community which is the seat of Agbofeme, the investment potentials of the area.

The land size and boundaries of the Deme area as well as other communities that fall under Deme some of which include Avlorvortey, Lolito, Patukope, Dzokplenu, Gbenuakope, Detsawome, Hlevi, Akato, Dzodome, Alavanyo, Alesikpe as well as parts of Dabala Junction where they share boundaries with their compatriots on the Anyigbe Afegame land.

Secretary to the Clan, Sampson Dzukey who led the community engagement and later spoke with 3news, called on the youth of the area not only to remain united but also contribute their quota towards the development of the Deme community.

He disclosed that as part of efforts to curb the indiscriminate land sale and acquisition in the area, the Anyigbeyia Clan of Agbofeme has decided to establish Lands Secretariat in the Deme community to attract individuals and group investors who need land in the area for farming and other development projects that would create job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youth of the area.

The Secretary noted that residents of the area are indigenous farmers, engaged in maize, cassava, rice and vegetable farming amongst others, urging the youth to take advantage of government programmes and policies to venture into agriculture which is the main stay of the Ghanaian economy.

Head of the Anyigbeyia Clan of Agbofeme at Deme, Tator Agbo III stressed the need for unity among the sons and daughters of the Clan and the Deme community, adding that it is only through unity that peace and development can be achieved.

He re-assured the youth and residents of the area of his open-door policy since becoming their Clan Head for several years now, adding that members of the community could contact him anytime and any day for clarifications on any issue bordering on their progress.

Tator Agbo III assured the people that he would continue to work diligently not only to protect their interest but also all the lands and property belonging to the clan and its descendants.

Togbe Afianu II of Dabala who was also present at the meeting, urged the residents to support the unity efforts and the reset agenda initiative of Tator Agbo III who has sacrificed his time, energy and resources over the years towards building a protected and united clan and Deme community.

He urged the citizens to show interest and concern about their development and that of their community. ‘It is only through this that we can build a united front to achieve our goals and vision as a people’, Togbe Afianu II emphasized.
