The Volta Regional Police Command has intensified its fight against illicit drug cultivation, destroying several acres of suspected Indian hemp farms during an intelligence-led operation at Peki Dzake in the South Dayi District.

The operation forms part of efforts to protect the region’s youth from the growing threat of drug abuse.

The operation, led by the Regional Police Command in collaboration with the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLU), followed credible intelligence on the illegal cultivation of Indian hemp in the area.

Addressing the media, the Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP/Mr. Wisdom Akorli, said officers trekked for nearly two hours through difficult terrain before reaching the farms, where they destroyed about eight acres of suspected Indian hemp, with additional areas identified for follow-up operations.

He said the operation uncovered widespread cultivation of suspected Indian hemp and assured the public that intelligence-led operations would continue until those behind the illegal activities are arrested.

Police say the suspects fled before officers arrived, but investigations are underway to apprehend them.
