The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has dismissed suggestions that the party is considering changes to its leadership in Parliament.
Responding to questions on whether the NPP intends to reshuffle its front bench, Mr. Kodua said the issue has not been discussed and does not arise at this time.
“It is something that has not come on the table and I don’t see why at this point the party wants to change leadership in Parliament. For what reason? So, it is something that has not come to the table,” he stated in an interview on TV3, Friday, February 13, 2025.
He emphasized that the party remains satisfied with the performance of the Minority leadership under Alexander Afenyo-Markin, describing their work in the House as “impressive”.
“The party is overwhelmingly satisfied. We know the works that the mighty Minority under the leadership of Afenyo-Markin have been doing and certainly, we will continue to give them all the needed support for them to be able to continue to perform their job,” he said.
Mr. Kodua added that the party leadership is pleased with the efforts of its parliamentary caucus in holding government accountable and advancing the NPP’s position on national issues.
“We are very impressed and very elated about the work that they are doing,” he stressed.
His comments come amid speculation in some political circles about possible changes within the Minority leadership in Parliament. However, the NPP’s top leadership has now made clear that it stands firmly behind its current parliamentary leaders and will not change them.
He stressed that if the NPP continues on its current reorganization path, he’s convinced the party will resume power in 2028.
“If as a party, we are able to continue the reorganization that we are doing, I am very convinced that in 2028, we shall come back to power. All that Ghanaians are expecting from us is to prove and show to them that, yes, we mean business and we have taken our reorganization seriously,” he noted.
