As part of efforts to operationalise President John Dramani Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy Markets, the Bole District Assembly and the office of the Member of Parliament have begun a massive decongestion exercise at the allocated land site for work to commence.

Several shops including the NDC party office at the allocated area have since been demolished to pave way for the start of the project.

The project is expected to create jobs, improve access to goods and services, and enhance commercial opportunities for traders and residents in the area.

Residents say the siting of the project in the heart of the Bole community is necessary to attract investors.

“Usually when markets are situated outside town, market men and women feel reluctant to relocate and so once there is enough land for the project here, we are in full support. We hope the projects kickstart as soon as possible,” a resident said.

Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Yussif Sulemana assured the residents of speedy completion of the project.

“His Excellency the President is serious about this programme and will do everything humanly possible to complete it. We will ensure equitable distribution of the stores to ensure that we reap the benefits of the sacrifices we make today,” the MP said.

He expressed gratitude to the Bolewura and other stakeholders especially the youth for their cooperation and support in identifying a suitable place for the project.

Other structures expected to be demolished include some six dilapidated government quarters, and an old community centre.

The 24-hour economy programme is a flagship intervention that seeks to deepen local economic development and decentralization.

Parliament recently passed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, to establish the 24-Hour Economy Authority in a bid to spur Ghana’s economic transformation.

The passage of the bill provides the regulatory regime and the legal mandate for the formalisation and implementation of the 24-hour economy.
