Transport Minister, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has assured that government is making necessary arrangements with the concessionaire working on the Boankra Inland Port project for a sooner completion.

He told Parliament on Thursday, February 12, 2026 that phase one of the facility is at 83 percent completion stage, with a steady progress on the second phase.

Nikpe noted that the overall work done so far is 50.54 percent.

“Phase 1 is progressing steadily and at 83% complete, phase 2 is expected to include among others external boundary road works, construction of sewer lines, transit facilities, stations and other civil works.

“The overall physical progress of the project stands at 50.54%,” he stated.

The Minister noted that giving timelines for the completion of the project is currently impossible but government is committed to provide the necessary support for the project to be completed as expected.

“To give timelines as at this point will be very difficult for me. I can assure you that we are going to be working with the concessionaire to ensue that we give the necessary support for him to be able to deliver. It is my hope that he is going to discharge his work as expected,” he added.

The Boankra Inland Port is a major logistics and transport infrastructure project located near Kumasi in Ghana’s Ashanti Region.

The project is designed to serve as a dry port – meaning cargo containers can be cleared inland instead of at the seaport. It is intended to complement Ghana’s main seaports, especially the Tema Port.

The project aims to reduce congestion at Tema Port by allowing importers and exporters to move their goods to Boankra for customs clearance and processing.
