Civil society group advocating for energy transition are empowering young people with knowledge on Ghana’s long-term energy transition agenda through debates in second cycle schools across the country.

The initiative is to equip students with the requisite knowledge in environmental care and energy transition, enabling them to become advocates within their communities.

The debate initiative is part of plans by civil society group, Dream Hunt Foundation and its partners, to promote sustainable environment as well as empower young people to be aware of the dangers associated with poor environmental conditions.

The 2026 edition was held at Ebenezer Senior High School on February 13 under the theme “Advancing Just Energy Transition Education in Schools.”

It was a mind-boggling debate with the contestants exhibiting deeper understanding in energy transition, and the need for the country to persue that long term agenda.

The founder of Dream Hunt Foundation Portia Adu-Mensah said they are pushing environmental education through initiatives like these, helping them to understand climate responsibility, clean energy concepts, and the opportunities that energy transition presents for young people in Ghana.

She revealed that as part of its sustainability efforts, the foundation has established Environmental Club at Ebenezer SHS, aimed at nurturing resilient, and responsible future leaders who can drive environmental advocacy and climate action nationwide.

‎She noted that the debate provided students with a platform to freely express their views, both for and against the motion, emphasizing that inclusive dialogue is critical to ensuring that no group is left behind as Ghana works toward its energy transition target by 2070.

‎“The debate has helped students appreciate national efforts toward energy transition while understanding their own role as young energy users and change-makers,” she stated.

She further encouraged the youth of Ghana to actively participate in environmental protection and energy transition efforts, stressing that their involvement is crucial to achieving a sustainable future.
