Access to clean and safe drinking water has finally become a reality for residents of some communities in the Akontombra District.

That is because the Akontombra District Assembly has commissioned multiple newly constructed boreholes for the people of Obbengkrom,

For many years, the communities struggled with an acute water shortage that affected households, schools, and overall public health. Children were often forced to walk long distances in search of water, a situation that disrupted education and exposed residents to health risks.

That long-standing challenge has now been addressed. The borehole was officially commissioned and handed over to the chiefs and people of the community during a ceremony attended by officials from the Akontombra District Assembly.

The delegation included the District Coordinating Director, Health Officers, and Procurement Officers, underscoring the Assembly’s commitment to improving living conditions at the grassroots level.

A Lifeline for Residents

Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive Hon. Joseph Appiah emphasized that access to clean water is a basic necessity and not a privilege.

He noted that the project forms part of broader efforts to enhance sanitation, improve public health, and support education in rural communities.

Residents, particularly parents and school authorities, expressed relief that students will no longer struggle daily to find potable water, a situation that previously affected punctuality, hygiene, and academic performance.

Community Gratitude and Hope

Traditional leaders and community members warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed their heartfelt appreciation for responding to a long-standing need.

According to them, the boreholes will significantly reduce the burden on women and children who previously bore the responsibility of fetching water from distant and unsafe sources.

A Project with Lasting Impact

Beyond easing daily hardship, the borehole is expected to deliver long-term benefits, including improved health and sanitation, stronger educational outcomes, and enhanced community development.

With clean water now readily available, these communities are poised for a healthier and more productive future marking a significant milestone not only for the community, but for the entire Akontombra District.
