Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for showing him care and love following the deadly accident he had with the Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, Mohammed Adams Sukparu.
“It’s important that I thank Ghanaians for the solidarity, love and care that they demonstrated when I was involved in that tragic accident on the Tumu road,” he told Roland Walker in an exclusive interview on TV3’s NewDay on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The Minister confirmed that he was on his way to Tumu on an official assignment when the incident happened, expressing gratitude to God for sparing his life and that of the Deputy Minister.
“Indeed I was travelling to Tumu and then Wa for the Colleges of Education 40th Anniversary of the Tumu College of Education, then to Jahan to support the Ahmadiyyah Muslim Mission and getting them undertake the congregation and graduation of their student and God did what best pleases Him and I’m thankful for a rebirth and rebirth of my life,” he added.
Ministers Iddrisu and Sukparu’s accident on the Bolgatanga – Tumu Road occurred on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
The crash occurred while the ministers and their respective teams were travelling to official engagements in the Upper West Region.
The Ministers were on their way to commemorate the 40th Anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education in the Upper West Region when the incident occurred.
They were treated at the 37 Military Hospital and got discharged after few days.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Education on Saturday, February 14, 2026, confirmed that the Minister has been released from the 37 Military Hospital, where he was receiving medical care.
“The Office of the Honourable Minister for Education announces that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has been discharged from the 37 Military Hospital following a road traffic accident,” the statement read.
In the statement, the Minister also expressed appreciation to the medical team that attended to him and to members of the public who offered prayers and support during the period.
