The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the rescheduling of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to July-August.
The tournament was originally scheduled to start in Morocco on Tuesday, March 17 and end on Friday, April 3.
However, the continent’s football-governing body on Thursday, March 5 announced a rescheduling “to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforseen circumstances”.
There were earlier reports of the withdrawal of Morocco, who had disagreed with CAF on sanctions after the AFCON 2025 final chaos, as South Africa had announced readiness to host the tournament.
In the statement announcing the rescheduling of this year’s WAFCON, CAF was silent on the hosting situation.
It, however, noted: “Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful.”
The tournament will start on Saturday, July 25 and end on Sunday, August 16.
