A fierce dispute over land ownership, mining rights, and political interference has erupted in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region, pitting small-scale mining firm Eagle Eye Mining Limited against a faction of the Ahanta Traditional Authority.

The conflict centers on the control and future of the Mpeasem concession, a piece of land that both parties claim a rightful interest in.

In a press release issued on March 10, 2026, Eagle Eye Mining Limited moved to “formally place on record its position” and refute what it describes as “unfounded” allegations made against its operations. The statement serves as a direct response to a recent press conference led by Nana Azulo Prah, the Ankobia Safohene and President of the Ahanta State Asafo Authority, who alleged the concession was granted without the consent of the allodial owners of the land.

But the company claims; “The Aketenchie Stool, through the Aketenchie Traditional Council, has formally granted the company twenty-five (25) acres of land in the Mpeasem community for small-scale mining operations.”

It emphasized that the allocation was carried out in accordance with customary procedures, reflecting the “confidence and trust” of the local traditional authorities.
Describing itself as a duly registered Ghanaian company, Eagle Eye has strongly reaffirmed its legal standing and community relationships.

“The company has diligently pursued all necessary regulatory approvals, including government mining licenses, environmental certifications, and other statutory requirements, demonstrating full compliance with Ghana’s mineral resources and environmental laws,” the statement read.

Eagle Eye further detailed its integration into the community, highlighting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with local leadership that channels all employment opportunities through the Office of the Queen Mother. According to the company, it has conducted legitimate exploration activities over the past four years in close collaboration with local youth.

“Over the past four years, Eagle Eye Mining Limited has conducted legitimate mineral exploration and project development within its concession area. Activities undertaken during this period have included geological surveys, resource confirmation exercises, environmental baseline assessments, and technical and regulatory compliance processes. These activities have been carried out in collaboration with the youth of the community, providing them with employment, skills, and exposure to responsible mining practices,” the statement said.

In a bid to underscore its commitment to sustainable mining, Eagle Eye pointed to a partnership with Takoradi Technical University aimed at introducing mercury-free gold extraction technologies. It also listed several proposed social investments, including the renovation of community centers and the construction of a borehole to improve access to potable water.

“Eagle Eye Mining Limited remains steadfast in its commitment to lawful and responsible mining, environmental protection, community partnership, and regulatory compliance,” the statement concluded.
